Shutter speed is how quickly the shutter opens and closes. The longer the shutter speed is the more light gets into the camera.
A smaller shutter speed will slow the images down so you can photograph fast moving objects like a bird or a sprinter. A long shutter speed captures movement and if someones running the picture will be really blurry this is helpful to show movement for example a fast burst of speed. This diagram shows the shutter speed of how a picture would look for example 1/2000 shutter speed is really fast so if i was out with my friends and we went to a race track we would have to use 1/2000 of a second to get that crystal clear image. But if i was to do it on 1/3 shutter speed and took a picture again the picture would come out blury and awful.
