statement of intent
I aspire to compose a website around weird and wonderful, I will do this by demonstrating my thoughts and creativity by bringing the images to life. I will use a similar technique to Laura Williams as she has inspired me to do the topic weird and wonderful on mirrors.
I will go around various locations to try and get consistent photos showing my progress. I'm going to
try and mix René Magritte and Christian Hopkins as they both have a unique view on weird and wonderful. Christian Hopkins is also a photographer who focuses on surrealism and weird things like demons and ghosts to catch the attention of the audience.
I'm wanting to achieve a photo that's dignified and weird. One that'll stand out and catch the attention of the audience. I'm going to achieve this by making my photos with its own character. As I go through my project I will take in the main features such as facial features covered with a mirror. Then giving a detailed analysis of the photo.
For my shoot, I will use a camera and a tripod so my images will look sharp and professional as it's a key role. I will be continually analyzing and documenting my work with three other plans to help me out.
Could be taken a few months as it is a hard subject to prepare for as it requires places to travel to.

Surrealism
Salvador Dali The Persistence Of Memory...
"Surrealism aimed to revolutionise human experience, rejecting a rational vision of life in favour of one that asserted the value of the unconscious and dreams. The movement’s poets and artists found magic and strange beauty in the unexpected and uncanny, the disregarded and the unconventional."
In my opinion, I think this is a art movement what creates a creative mind
For example...

This is a painting by Salvador Dali,
it acquires a melting clock with the basic components that make up a clock flying away. This has a contrast of a soft sky and a melting cock what amalgams into the sharp dishevelled brown cube.
This clock clearly shows us the presence of a dream-like quality with a ghostly appearance to emphasise the secretive meaning behind this picture. The floating Clock could indicate that the time is either ticking away really fast or slowly. He has used distinctive colours some vibrant yellow, blue, some contrasting white and brown to try and grab the attention of the viewer's eyes.
The canvas painted picture looks like it has been edited on editing software.
To a person's eye, you wouldn't think Dali has painted this piece of work because it looks so surreal.

He was a international artist
who became famous in the 1950s.
As he finally got recognized for his work and said "My painting is visible images which conceal nothing. They evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, 'What does that mean?' It does not/ mean anything, because mystery means nothing, it is unknowable."
During the early period of his career, shortly following his marriage, Rene Magritte would spend his spare time creating art forms and worked on a number of pieces it was during this time period that he realized surrealism was the art form which he most enjoyed.
His most famous picture made a spark in his life it was called "Golconda" This oiled canvas picture attracted the audience with its unusual behaviour with its "raining men".
dressed in dark overcoats and bowler hats drooping down like rain equally spaced in a lattice. The background starts with a cadet blue sky dropping into the red-tiled roofs and cream bricked buildings.
This image links in to my theme well as it explores weird and wonderful right in to depth as I will try and mimic something like this where it is literally raining men who are wearing a overcoat and a hat or one of his other famous paintings like "The Son of Man" where he has weirdly replaced an face with a green bright apple which makes us as a audience think what's the catch behind the photo making us think in depth of its weird eerie touch which I will try and achieve under my own topic of "weird and wonderful" in Photoshop where many tools will be used to manipulate the image to make it weird and dark.
A theory which I have considered whilst writing my context is that behind this one image shows that men had a saying over everything during the times of Renes rule when men had more power than women. This image possibly is trying to show us how men are raining over society and how there is a lack of equality as it needs to change.
In my opinion, I think that Dali has expressed his weird ways astonishingly within this painting which captures the "raining men" as it was definitely thought out beforehand which has caused many theories to have awoken. To be clearly honest, Renes painting to me is still a big blur! I have no idea what the actual image is about but raining men...
I think Dali has definitely thought this art piece through and purposely made this weird and unique so we could theorize what this image was about inspiring me to do something similar to this.

Christian Hopkins, 22, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a photographer who has recently taken photography in. His photos explain decapitated heads and bleeding ghosts. At the age of 16, he got diagnosed with depression blaming "Demons" which is scary thinking about it now, because of this he made images which were similar and in his head and expressed them out in an image form.
In this picture, Christian Hopkins puts a levitating ghost in the centre. With the background having a dark contrast as it lightens out as it comes in with a bit of blur right at the back. The shutter speed for this image was perhaps fast as the shroud would have been moving a lot as well as the leaves because of the winds in the winter. The exposure was possibly quite high then altered within photoshop to get the right type of contrast and glow for the shrouded figure. A tripod was used in this for sure as a clear image was needed to be in focus for the shroud and blurry for the foreground.
This picture tells us a real inside of surrealism this is related able to my work as I like the way how Christian Hopkins has experimented with his work by using Photoshop and cropping the picture. This also links into my work as it allows me to explore and manipulate with my images to make them look creepy where I would need to adjust a series of things. Thirdly, this links into my work because it inspires me to explore the supernatural and put it into my work and create a scary looking end result.
This image seems as if it was taken during the morning in a forest or woods in the winter around 6 - 8 am where the sky is normally like this and creepy as there are barely any leaves on the leaves on the trees. In the centre of this image we can see a ghostly figure in a white robe and mask which seems to be crying which immediately gets the viewers attention making them get chills and feel scared as it's something which we don't see in the human world a lot as its considered weird and the fact that its in a forest looking dead on to its left making us think what's there? The fact that the picture goes from a dark to light going back to the front makes us think how scary it would be if the photo of the phantom was real.
I like how Christian Hopkins has used surrealism as it catches the audiences attention straight away. The ghost in the middle of the picture Gives the audience something to think about for example ghosts. Christian Hopkins has definitely also thought about this prior to taking the image as it clearly points out how surrealism is and how scary it can be when thinking about it. He has clearly shown surrealism in a good manner with his manipulation skills.

Wanting to develop my ideas further around René Magritte
The Son of Man
This Art piece by René Magritte choreographs an Oil painting what looks quite smooth I cannot tell if it is as I haven't seen the painting directly but through a computer screen making the oil markings hard to see. The painting dwells a man centered in the middle of the portrait wearing a grey/black overcoat with a black hat, red tie and a white shirt. In the foreground lurks grey clouds and a light sea. His face is hindered with a floating apple. But we are able to see a glimpse of René Magritte eye. The colourway shows the man's wearing red, green, grey and black. The black depicts envy and how god could be angry that Adam ate the apple showing a reference to the story of Adam and Eve. Or it could even mean the depiction of Jesus transfiguration as the name is "the son of man" relates. He uses three layers in the background making it very simple and clean as the clouds give off a dramatic atmosphere. René Magritte uses both dark and light colours so the man easily spotted first and that your eye gets caught onto him first.
His positioning shows us that he is calm and could be a businessman by his bowl hat and cloak.

He uses three layers in the background making it very simple and clean as the clouds give off a dramatic atmosphere. René Magritte uses both dark and light colours so the man easily spotted first and that your eye gets caught onto him first. My project theme was weird and wonderful where we took photos of 'weird' images and shown their beauty.
I chose to show off the weird and wonderful of the 'supernatural' The project first started in March with a mood board dictating my actions on what to do next what was going to Longford Park and using mirrors, clothes and masks to try to pull off an eerie and spooky effect. About a month after I started to use Photoshop and play around with it as my project "Weird and wonderful" shown my creativity in Photoshop where I tried to make something dreamlike into something convincing and what I could do as well as develop my Photoshop skills for the future. I got my inspiration from René Magritte as his Pictures shown something unique what other artists couldn't do at the time.
The part what I enjoyed the most was Photoshop as i got to wielded my creativity in a masterpiece as I learnt how to use the 'Magnetic Lasso' as it grabbed the photo and cut out the foreground allowing me to use it in another photo without the background where I got the image from confidently as it has opened our minds to show craft something great however it took a trial and error for the standards I want.
Other tools I used.
- Slice Tool, specifically cuts out what you don't want.
- Clone Stamp, as it stamps out the something near.
- Blur, as it blurs out something in the foreground.
- Saturation, Makes it go black and white.
- Crop, as it crops out what you don't want.
Throughout this project, I researched René Magritte as his photo 'The Son Of Man' shows that he uses three layers in His pictures making it very simple and clean as the texture of his photographs give off a dramatic atmosphere. René Magritte uses both dark and light colours so we get a creepy/weird feeling.
In my opinion, to improve and develop my photographs I would need a better access to more equipment such as a new tripod and lights as I had to often use my phone torch to help brighten the photo whilst indoors however whilst I was outside I realised I needed new props were needed as often we encountered problems whilst going to the park. An example of a fault can be when masks broke meaning the shoot what I had in mind wasn't able to occur.
However, after a year of coming back to my "weird and wonderful," I have reconsidered what I enjoyed most as after finishing my landscapes I have realised how many skills I have achieved because of this topic as my Photoshop manipulation is getting better and better as my path started here.
For this topic, I researched 2 main people. However, Dali, stood out to me the most I couldn't resist of how weird but beautiful it was as well as it was painted many years ago and not photo shopped as paints were used to create his stunning paintings which motivated me to do something under "weird and wonderful".
